Star anise is an aromatic spice with a distinctive sweet-spicy fragrance and pronounced licorice notes. Its star-shaped pods are not just decorative – each “arm” contains valuable essential oil (anethole) that imparts a bold and deep flavor profile to beer or spirits.
It is excellent in holiday beers, porters, spiced beers, meads, and spirits (e.g., anise liqueurs, absinthe, pastis, ouzo).
Usage in beer and mead:

Add to the brew kettle during the last 5–15 minutes
